How To Connect

How does this work?

SeaTrek.TV lessons are one-to-one classroom experiences where students can ask their questions in real time. They are two-way, interactive video connections between your school or organization and our laboratory in Florida using internet technology. They are available at flexible times. We can see and hear your learners and they can see and hear us.

There are many ways to connect with us for interactive video lessons. Some schools and organizations use dedicated video systems from Polycom, Cisco and LifeSize. These hardware systems are often called H.323 codecs after the communication standard they used to "talk" to each other. There are also numerous software-based video solutions available like Zoom, Skype, Google Hangouts and much more. We are as flexible as possible in making your connection request. If you have any questions about how to receive a SeaTrek.TV lesson, please contact us.

Basic Recommended Technology

  1. Computer or videoconference system (aka, codec). Many teachers simply use a laptop to connect. The laptop will run Zoom, Skype or a similar software-based video solution. A dedicated videoconferencing system like those from Polycom or LifeSize will often have better cameras and microphones than a laptop or desktop computer.
  2. Large screen TV or projector. Since this is a a two-way video connection, we recommend using a large, bright TV screen over a projector when possible. It is tempting to turn off the lights when using a projector, but then we can't see your learners.
  3. Webcam or video camcorder. Most laptops have a built in webcam. This can be difficult to position and is really designed for use by one person sitting at the laptop, not for showing an entire room. A better choice is a video camcorder or removable webcam that can be position and focused independently of the computer or codec.
  4. High-speed internet connection (Wired ethernet preferred. Wireless not recommended). Wireless internet can be subject to interference. We recommend a wired connection whenever possible.
  5. Speaker/microphone. A high quality speaker/microphone is essential for a quality connection. Many times teachers will pipe the audio from the connection to the room speakers. This sounds good in the classroom but can cause feedback on our side. A speaker/microphone will usually have built in echo-cancellation that eliminates feedback.
