BreakoutEDU is a student-centered, fun, innovative game adaptable to any subject–including marine science! Modeled on the Escape Room phenomenon, students learn to work under pressure to “break into” a locked box. Solving the puzzles develops problem-solving and critical thinking skills using inquiry-based methods. Students must learn to communicate and work together. This is a hands-on demonstration of the standardized kit and introduction to the teacher materials and a chance to win a free kit!

Miranda will present a session called Mommy and Me at Mote: Corals & Climate Change in Early Childhood

Mommy and Me at Mote is one of Mote Marine Laboratory’s most popular education programs for families with children between the ages of 2 and 5 years old. Small fry and their favorite adults enjoy learning together about marine science through songs, stories, games, role plays, the use of science tools, and special interactions at Mote Aquarium exhibits. Ocean related topics are brand new each week and focus on the cutting edge research of Mote Marine Laboratory – including coral research in the Red Sea. Join me for an introduction to climate change and ocean acidification for young children beginning their science careers and the teachers and families who nurture them.
